PDF Redact Free is architected with a strict zero-upload, zero-server privacy model for your documents. When you load a PDF into PDF Redact Free:

Your files never leave your browser: All document rendering, parsing, and vector-level redaction occur 100% locally in your computer or mobile device's browser memory (RAM) via WebAssembly and JavaScript.
Zero server uploads: We do not operate any backend server or API that receives, processes, or stores your PDF documents.
No document retention: Because your documents are never uploaded to any remote computer, there is no file storage, database, or document cache on our systems.
No document inspection: We cannot see, read, index, or extract any text, financial information, Social Security numbers, or metadata contained within your files.

2. How Local Processing Works

Unlike conventional cloud-based PDF conversion tools that require you to transmit sensitive files over the internet to remote servers, PDF Redact Free operates entirely on client-side technologies:

Mozilla PDF.js: Compiles and renders your PDF pages directly onto local HTML5 <canvas> elements.
pdf-lib: Executes pure client-side PDF document manipulation in JavaScript, burning solid, opaque black vector rectangles into the document's content stream before triggering a direct local download.

When you close your browser tab or refresh the page, your document in browser memory is immediately discarded.

3. Third-Party Advertising & Cookies (Google AdSense Disclosure)

To keep PDF Redact Free free for everyone without subscriptions or paywalls, we display advertising provided by third-party vendors, including Google.

In accordance with Google AdSense policies, please note the following required disclosures:

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites on the internet.
Google's use of advertising cookies (such as the DoubleClick / DART cookie) enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.

CDNjs / Unpkg: For loading client-side PDF rendering libraries via secure CDNs.

6. Local Storage Preferences

We use your browser's localStorage solely to remember your preferred visual theme (Light Mode or Dark Mode). This preference is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to any external server.
